A hike worth taking.
Reconnecting with nature is one of the best ways to rediscover your kids and yourself as a (happy, calm) parent. That is, if you don't end up unprepared on a trail that is too advanced! Here are the top spots in Frontenac to take the kiddos for a family hike or a family stroll, depending on the speed setting for your children.
- Frontenac Provincial Park: The Arab Lake Gorge Trail (1.5km loop)
Plan to hold hands with the wee ones on some of the boardwalk stretches that have no railing. Cool vegetation in the valley bottom. Consider this a gateway to hiking at Frontenac Park. Get the Google Map. - Kennebec Wilderness Trails: 7km of trails in total
Combine sections of different loops to suit your family. Take it easy on some of the steeper parts. A 15 minute drive east of Sharbot Lake (for icecream and cold beverages after). Get the Google Map. - Gould Lake Conservation Area: Mine Loop Trail (2.2km loop)
Gould Lake was once a hotbed of mica mines, and this loop is now one of FAB's Amazing Places. Your kids will love finding sparkly bits of mica along the trail. Get the Google Map. - K&P Trail: 75 km from Downtown Kingston to Sharbot Lake
Flat and wide, the K&P Trail is great for strollers and clumsy kids who want lots of room to run. The K&P is linear, so walk as far as you want, then turn around and head back to your starting point. There are lots of access points, you'll get the best view of it on Frontenac Maps.
