Biker on K&P

Note: As we all learn to adapt to new realities associated with physical distancing and the COVID-19 Pandemic, be sure to call ahead to confirm opening hours for any of the destinations highlighted in this route.  As the situation is ever-changing, it is quite possible the information provided here is out-of-date or inaccurate.

ROUTE OVERVIEW

Starting at the north parking lot of the Invista Centre (Kingston) at 1350 Gardiner’s Road, this beautiful route follows a path to the K&P trail (the former Kingston to Pembroke railway line) and the countryside to the north and east. Gently rolling roads take you toward Elginburg, a rural community where you begin to notice limestone outcroppings. Just before Perth Road, there is a steep but mercifully short hill. Right before turning onto South Frontenac Township Road 12 around Inverary, consider a quick step onto Perth Road to take out a warm bite to eat at Paradiso Pizza or swing by The Cookery for a grab and go meal. Leaving Inverary, you will travel north and east, and during this stretch some scenic lakes come into view as you enter the area of the Canadian Shield.

Near the halfway mark of your ride on Battersea Road (Township Road 11) is the Ormsbee’s Mercantile, famous for their breakfast sandwiches, pizza as well as daily baked goods! Shortly after, at the turn onto Ida Hill Road is the lovely stone St. John’s Anglican Church built in 1863. Finally, the route takes you to your destination, the village of Battersea. If you're famished from the ride, head to the Creekside Bar and Grill for pub fare or swing by the Holiday Country Manor for a creative take-away meal. If you're up for a side excursion or need to cool off, follow Wellington Street for 2.5 km to reach the wonderful Gilmour Point Beach on Dog Lake, part of the Rideau Canal, a designated UNESCO World Heritage site.

Finally, ride through farmland on quiet roads back to Kingston and the Invista Centre. If you happen to find yourself in need of any bicycle repairs, feel free to stop by Unique Cycle Kingston Inc when you hit Burbrook Road, minutes before the end of your ride. This is a 67km route, in total.
