Anyone Can Knit at Ewe Can Knit Verona
Heather Woodyard and Darlene Slack have all the resources and expert knowledge needed to start crocheting or knitting, from any skill level!
Established in 2014, Ewe Can Knit Verona was created by Heather Woodyard with the support of her mother, Darlene Slack.
Originally intended as a retirement plan, this one-stop-shop for all your knitting and crocheting needs was born out of Woodyard’s passion and a local need for supplies in the area.
Ewe Can Knit Verona offers a wide variety of materials and expert assistance for anything to do with knitting and crocheting, including acrylics, wools, and wool blends. Though the pandemic has put this on pause, Woodyard plans to once again offer lessons and re-start her knitting social group. This social group is “a good way to show people what you’re doing, and a good way to get help from people too” on various knitting projects, says Woodyard.
Despite the skillful array of clothes and toys that line the shelves at Ewe Can Knit Verona, Woodyard did not grow up knitting. This skill began when Woodyard worked at Lewiscraft in Toronto, and it grew with her love of the art. She is now very proud of her collection of crocheted friends, such as Baby Yoda, but is most proud of her first major project, a hooded sweater.
The warm atmosphere of Ewe Can Knit Verona is due in part to the nature of the two owners of the business. Woodyard “dragged [her mother] out of retirement” to begin this business and have since passed 16 happy years together in Verona.
Located directly off the K&P Trail next to Verona Convenience, Woodyard and Slack are always open to a friendly chat or a question or two about knitting. They are also an active location on the Frontenac App, so be sure to stop by to collect and redeem points.
